Sound, Lighting, Staging & Curtain Installation

School Hall Audio Visual Installation, Liverpool

King’s Leadership Academy have a school hall for drama and music performances. However, they were in need of modern sound & lighting equipment installation to enhance the performance space.

Our initial brief related to the installation of sound and lighting equipment for the Liverpool based school. After surveying the venue, we chatted through more options with the teaching staff. It was decided that the venue would greatly benefit from a draping curtain system as well as a new stage.

We worked closely with the teachers that would be operating the equipment. We implemented their individual requirements in to the design and choice of equipment.

Prior to the installation works we provided visuals of the room. This helped to visualise the dramatic change that a new stage, curtains and lighting would have on the existing setup.

What We Provided

Audio

The Audio system consisted of 4x JBL 612 speakers accompanied by the JBL 618S sub speaker.
The system was supplied with 8x head worn theatre type radio microphones along with handheld and choir pickup microphones.

We supplied a Behringer X32 as the audio console. Using a tablet connected to the Wi-Fi router, the system can be controlled from anywhere in the venue. This facility creates the freedom from being situated in the control room during rehearsals. The teaching staff can adjust microphones and all audio inputs while being onstage or in any part of the venue.

Lighting

We installed COB LED fixtures for the front wash of the stage complete with barndoors. Schools and venues can have issues repositioning lights due to little or no access to the fixed rigging bars. Our solution for theatre specials was to offer a moving light solution supplying LED Profile fixtures with a zoom function. This provides pre-determined spots across the stage at the touch of a button.

The lighting system control console chosen was Chamsys QuickQ. This console is very self-intuitive and has many attributes of professional high end consoles. This lighting desk is ideal for schools who want to incorporate technology and future proof an expandable lighting system.
Taking the idea of the audio console control flexibility, the QuickQ is also controllable from a tablet. The lighting can be controlled from anywhere in the venue.

Staging & Curtains

We transformed the room in offering a new stage system and providing curtain tracking and draping around the entire room.

We installed an 8m wide x 5m deep portable staging system complete with two sets of steps. An additional stage access ramp was added to the stage for unassisted wheelchair access.

The curtain system is retractable and the rear stage track includes an additional Cyc surface. The cyc can be used for projection of video, static backdrop images or to light the surface for dance.
